EASA has issued an Emergency Airworthiness Directive that affects many of the hand-held fire extinguishers found in both small and large aircraft. Because of the serious nature of the identified problem, the UK CAA has concurrently issued a Mandatory
Permit Directive with identical rulings for all aircraft issued with a Permit to Fly e.g.microlights, LAA types, and ex-military aircraft.

If anyone wants further details, either post below, or review the EASA website and read EASA EAD 2009-0251-E.

The effective date for this EAD (the date at which it becomes effective) was the 26th of November, full compliance to be established by the 28th (today).

If any of you own an aircraft and you are unsure if you may be affected by this EAD, drop me a line.

P.S. The full hire fleet of Cherokee's, 172's and the DR400 at EGCK have been checked and found OK.
